Bindi Irwin, the beloved wildlife conservationist and television personality, has opened up about her decade-long battle with endometriosis, revealing the immense physical and emotional pain she endured while maintaining a “happy exterior” for the world to see. In a candid interview with Australia’s 9honey Celebrity, the 26-year-old shared the challenges she faced during this painful journey.
“I was in so much pain and fighting an invisible battle daily,” Irwin revealed. “I spent so much of my time trying to keep a happy exterior while I was struggling to stay afloat.”
Endometriosis Diagnosis: A Decade of Misunderstanding
For years, Bindi grappled with symptoms of endometriosis, including severe pain, nausea, and fatigue, yet struggled to get a proper diagnosis. The Mayo Clinic describes endometriosis as a condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it, causing pain and complications. Despite enduring countless tests and medical appointments, Bindi’s condition went undiagnosed for more than a decade.
“At one point in my journey, I was told that it was all in my head by a doctor,” she admitted. “I started to truly believe it.”

Public Revelation and Surgery
In March 2023, Bindi took to Instagram to share her battle with endometriosis, announcing that she had undergone surgery for the condition. Alongside a selfie from her hospital bed, she expressed the weight of her decision to go public with her health struggles.
“I battled for a long time wondering if I should share this journey with you in such a public space,” Irwin wrote. “It came down to the responsibility I feel to share my story for other women who need help. For 10 years I’ve struggled with insurmountable fatigue, pain & nausea… A doctor told me it was simply something you deal with as a woman & I gave up entirely.”
She added, “Going in for surgery was scary, but I knew I couldn’t live like I was. Every part of my life was getting torn apart because of the pain.”

The Role of Family Support
Throughout her health journey, Irwin leaned heavily on the support of her mother, Terri Irwin, who has been by her side through every painful moment. In her 9honey interview, Bindi spoke lovingly about how her mother’s care and strength helped her through the most difficult parts of her battle.
“She was there every step of the way for me, right down to helping me to the bathroom when I could barely walk after surgery,” Bindi said.
Bindi, who shares a 3-year-old daughter Grace with her husband, Chandler Powell, expressed her deep admiration for her mother, saying, “I don’t know what I would do without my incredible mama… I hope I am able to be even half the incredible mama to Grace that my mom is to me.”
A Message of Hope and Resilience
Despite the years of pain and challenges, Bindi Irwin remains hopeful for the future, focusing on her recovery and the joy of motherhood. By sharing her story, she hopes to inspire other women who are dealing with similar health issues to seek help and remain resilient.
